Join us for an fnMentoring session with our Founders Network legal partners Gunderson Dettmer. This session's guest will be Gina Marek.

Gina will be give a Non-Lawyer’s Guide to Privacy and Personal Data: She’ll give a high-level overview of the key privacy issues facing new (and established) companies in the U.S. and abroad, with special attention paid to those issues that typically raise red flags for potential investors and acquirers. Topics include California’s privacy laws (CalOPPA and Do Not Track), the European Data Privacy Directive, children under 13 (COPPA), and more.

Gina advises start up companies in corporate partnering, strategic alliances, technology protection, licensing and commercialization of intellectual property and technology assets, and privacy strategy and policy, as well as assisting with the intellectual property, technology, and privacy and data protection aspects of venture capital financings and merger and acquisition activities.

Gina is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP), holding the U.S. private-sector privacy certification granted by the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), the global standard in privacy certification. The CIPP/US certification demonstrates a strong foundation in U.S. private-sector privacy laws and regulations and understanding of the legal requirements for the responsible transfer of sensitive personal data to/from the U.S., the EU and other jurisdictions.
